Max Dashu 16 months ago

Re Encyclopedia Brittanica link, it is heavily weighted toward Europe and the US, as well as to female rulers and heads of state. Not saying these shouldn't be known, but it continues a distortion of our overall picture. I invite you to check out http://www.suppressedhistories.net and especially the Women's Power link. There's more to women's history than the (mostly modern) famous women, especially looking to indigenous women, female shamans, and the life-support technologies invented by anonymous women that we all live on, even today.

suziecat7 16 months ago

Gusripper - Same to you. Thanks for stopping by.

Your list is helpful to majority of the women after all it has a website to loose weight. The one thing that women crib about is their "weight"

Secondly, braveheartwomen is my fav website..

Sophia Angelique 16 months ago

Personally, I've never been gender specific. It has never occurred to me that anything is closed to me because I'm a woman. To me, being a woman is incidental. Being a human is primary.

suziecat7 16 months ago

Sophia - Though human, I do celebrate the accomplishments of women around the world who have made great strides in all aspects of life. Ideally, you are right. But many world societies are not ideal for women and were not so until rcently in many others. Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to read and comment.

Sophia Angelique 16 months ago

@Susiecat. Firstly, we're not living is notzn a world where women are second class citizens. Secondly, I have lived in a country where women are second class citizens. So did my mother, and despite all that, she was the first woman to do quite a few things. I don't see any reason to celebrate doing something just because one was a woman or a man or pink or purple. There are several reasons for that. The first is that, regardless of the effort of the person, if societal conditions hadn't been right for change, that person would not have succeeded. The environment has to support the effort to one degree or another. Secondly, at this point in western cultuire, I think it's downright rediculous to think there's anything special about the mindset that it's more difficult for a woman to do something than a man. There are a lot of other factors involved, but in the name of brevity, I can't go into them here.

suziecat7 16 months ago

Sophia - Your opinion is duly noted.

Genna East 16 months ago

Excellent hub, thank you. I plan to check these sites out soon.

Your title caught me off guard there is an implication that only certain women think. it could have easily been titled 10 great websites for women. Oxymoronic?

Joesy Shmoesy 15 months ago

Great Hub. I'm off to check out some of those websites. They sound really cool, and I have not heard of most of them. Thanks for sharing and I do look forward to some serious thinking. I need it lately.

suziecat7 15 months ago

Dingdon - thanks.

suziecat7 15 months ago

MikeNV - Some websites are more intelligent than others. Some are just fluff. I don't believe the title is oxymoronic at all.
