10 Healthy Ways To Start Your Day
79The alarm goes off. You slam down the snooze button, cherishing the few more minutes of sleep before you start your day. How that day goes is not always in your hands but how you approach it is. There are small changes you can make to assure morning is a healthy and happy experience.
TRY TEA - Many of us cannot get going without the benefit of a cup of coffee. Consider trying a cup of tea instead. Studies have shown that oolong tea can slow the aging process, white tea can help fight cancer and green tea is a strong antioxidant which can protect against heart disease, arthritis, allergies and so much more. Think you'll miss your morning caffeine boost? Tea has more caffeine than coffee and you can always add honey to sweeten your morning.
TRY ATTITUDE - Waking up with a bad attitude can reflect the outcome of your day. It is not something that happens by itself. You must choose to and train yourself to adopt a positive attitude. Use positive words, say a prayer, think of something cheerful. Starting the day on a positive note can make you feel better phisically too. Studies have shown that optimistic people are less likely to have heart attacks and strokes and have a 14% lower risk of death from any cause than do pessimistic folks.

TRY STRETCHING - Have you ever watched your pet wake up from a nap? They languidly stretch their limbs every time. Perhaps they know that proper stretching helps you look younger and feel younger, relaxes muscles, and increases mental concentration and emotional well-being. Stretching improves the flow of blood and nutrients throughout your body system guaranteeing a better start to your day.

TRY JUICE - There are so many health benefits to drinking juice that it should become part of your daily routine. Pomegranate juice has been shown to lower cholesterol, orange juice is rich in vitamin C, cranberry juice can remedy a urinary tract infection, and all juices may reduce the risk of Alzheimer's Disease. With all that knowledge about juice and knowing you are doing something good for your body the day ahead should be easier to tackle.

TRY EGG SUBSTITUTES - If you love eggs, and who doesn't, you may be eating too many of them. Egg yolks are high in cholesterol and should be limited to two a week. For some people, this is bad news. Lucky for them, egg substitutes have greatly improved through the years and taste just great. Some of these contain just the egg whites with other natural products added and there is a powdered form that is egg-free. By incorporating these substitutes into your breakfast plans, you will be taking a step toward better health.

TRY DANCING - Okay, so you won't be dancing with the stars but shaking your booty has multiple benefits. Go ahead and sashay across the bedroom or do a jig in front of the bathroom mirror because not only does dancing lift your spirits, it is good for your body too. Dancing reduces stress, increases energy and lowers your risk of heart disease. Your day can't be all bad when you started it with a little jiggling and shaking so let it rip.
TRY VITAMINS - We don't always eat the right foods. The human body requires certain vitamins and minerals to function well. Taking vitamin supplements everyday is a smart and healthy thing to do. You can choose a multivitamin or take separate ones. It is important to include vitamins C and B12 to keep your immune system strong. Many people report feeling a general sense of well-being with daily mulyivitamin and mineral consumption. If you do your homework, you can find the best vitamin regiment for your lifestyle.

TRY WALKING - Depending on your daily schedule, squeezing in a short walk can revive your spirits and jumpstart your day. It is a natural medicine and booster that can make your troubles melt away and ease the complications of a hectic life. A morning walk is good for your gastric system and brings much needed oxygen into your body. It stretches the limbs and keeps the heart pumping healthy. Even if it is just a stroll through the neighborhood, you will feel better for it.

TRY OATMEAL - Oatmeal is a wonder food. It can help lower bad cholesterol, is full of fiber and can lower blood sugar levels. It is nutritious and packed with protein. Add milk to oatmeal for calcium and fruit for flavor and vitamins. There is no better way to start the day than with a bowl of hot delicious oatmeal. Keep in mind that the packaged, flavored brands are often full of sugar.

TRY NATURE - Waking up and looking out the window can be one of the best things you can do to launch your day. Even if you live in the city, a view of the sky, clouds, and treetops can have powerful psychological results and benefits. Encounters with nature have positive restive and healing qualities. Take that cup of tea and bowl of oatmeal and eat out on the deck for a change. You'll be glad you did.

Great ways to start the day..very healthy too, not only for the body but for the mind and spirit as well.
I always do the stretching every morning. It is part of my morning exercises and it really starts my day actively.
Pat bounces out of bed in the morning, and does lots of the things on your list - drink tea, eat oatmeal, take vitamins, drink juice.
Tricia lies in bed and stretches. (and growns) Eventually drinks tea.

This is great, but I can see that I have a lot more work to do, when I arise: tea, stretching, egg substitutes, dancing, and oatmeal. But it's a great article and great information. What would my husband think, if he saw me doing any of these things, on any given morning? I can only imagine. Thanks for sharing.
great advice, and I am glad I found this hub. Makes me want to work harder at my health and attitude.
Great Hub. I will always choose "attitude". That's the one thing constant. You may not have tea, or juice, or good nature every day; but Attitude is always there: the good, the bad, and the ugly ! Keep up the good work !!
Wonderful advice - especially stretching in the mornings -- it can prevent all sorts of aches and pains throughout the day, and help you sleep better the following night!
These are very good tips. I really like your advice on try dancing and attitude :) It helps so much to have a positive attitude esp in the morning. I believe in have a positive attitude - it will make the rest of the day positive. Thank you. voted up.
Hi Suziecat7, Great article, I will use some of these ways to start my day. I will start with the morning tea now, thanks. I usually drink water early in the morning, and read a Bible verse from Joyce Meyer's book "Starting Your Day Right". This is my morning routine, before taking my children to school. Voted up, useful, and interesting.
